Seedling No: Seidl #239. Grown from seed sent to Bill from Bernard Chow of Melbourne, Australia in the early 1990’s. Bill had sent seeds to Bernard Chow many years ago, and plants grown from those seeds were in turn used in Chow’s hybridizing work. ‘Aussie Peach’ thus came from a foundation built by Bill and is an advanced generation lutea hybrid. Parentage: Chow I24 x Chow I31. First bloomed 2004, first propagated 2009. Flowers are SINGLE to SEMI-DOUBLE, 7 inches in size (17 cm), light amber yellow, with soft rose picotee edging. Rose=red flares extending 20% of petal’s length. Typically one primary bud with one or two side buds that open after the primary bud is spent, providing an extended bloom period. It has a dusty pink sheath, light red filaments and light green carpels with cream-yellow stigmas. Fragrance. A lower growing plant, to 3 feet in Wisconsin (90 cm), with excellent broad deep blue-green foliage. Plants may attain greater heights in climates that experience less severe winters. Many ground shoots are produced and plants make good subjects for division or grafting. The plant has been distributed under its seedling number (Seidl #239) and the name ‘Aussie Peach’. Plants grow comfortably in a wide range of climates, from Minnesota to Virginia and Oregon. Fertile both ways, but more productive as pollen parent. Named by Bill Seidl to reflect its Australian seed origin.
