First bloomed 2013, first propagated 2014. Parentage: ‘Kansas’ open pollinated. Blooms mid-season. Full DOUBLE flowers of flower-in-flower form with stamens visible. In China this form is termed “Golden Circle,” referring to the ring of stamens separating the top part of the finished flower from the bottom. Flowers are towards the purple end of the red spectrum, 5 inches (13 cm) in size, average 2-3 per stem. Pollen-bearing stamens with filaments yellow throughout. Carpels 2-4 in number, light green, moderately hairy, and though small, are capable of seed production. Stigmas are red, have normal form. Slight fragrance. Early foliage green, matures green with broad-pointed leaflets. Height to 36 inches (90 cm). Strong stems with upright growth habit spreading to 32 inches (83 cm) without mechanical support. The purple-red layered petals seem like the rising clouds, while the stamens provide golden light. Named with traditional Chinese culture in mind in which purple represents “honorable and elegant” and the yellow represents “light and authority.”
