D. E. Hybrid. Seedling No.: None. Parentage: officinalis x lactiflora. Double, rose center, early, bright pink.
D. E. R. Double, bright red, rose center, medium height with stiff stems and flowers from 5 to 6 inches in diameter. Parentage: hybrid from a cross of an officinalis with lactiflora on a 1F single red with a lactiflora double white or pink.
This peony has a long history in Finland, Sweden and Norway, and possibly back to the early 19th century in England. The registrant (Marstein (2013)) believes it fits the description given for P. paradoxa ssp. fimbriata in Robert Sweet’s “The British Flower Garden” (1823-25).
