Parentage: Paeonia lutea x Paeonia (Suffruticosa Gp) ‘Shima-nishiki’. First bloomed 2012, first propagated 2013. SEMI-DOUBLE flower form. Dark purplish red (RHS:53A), flares absent. Two flowers per stem, size 3¾ inches (9.5 cm) with out-facing display. Guard petals lightly notched, pleasingly ruffled, 1½ inches in width (3.6 cm), inner petals smaller. Carpels, average of 3, purplish red (RHS:53A), moderately hairy. Stigmas of like color, normal anatomy. Pollen-bearing stamens. Filaments red at the base (RHS:45A), becoming yellow towards the tips. Fragrance. No seeds. Sheath absent. Early foliage emerges red. Somewhat spreading growth, height to 20 inches (50 cm), support not needed. Drought and cold resistance when established. Prolonged flowering stage.
